Celebrating our Heritage
Friday, June 23 – Sunday, June 25, 2023
Ron Daise is an internationally renowned performer, storyteller, and cultural preservationist. Throughout the festival, he will be sharing selections from his most recent Geechee Literature Series.
Famed photographer and founder of South Carolina Civil Right Museum, Cecil Williams captured some of the most iconic images of the Civil Rights movement as a photographer for JET MAgazine. During our Friday Meet and Greet, Williams will give a presentation on his work.
Sunn m’Cheaux was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and is now an in-demand Afro-Caribbean creole lecturer who has worked with a wide range of institutions, companies, and organizations. Sunn is Harvard University’s first and only Gullah language course instructor, teaching a course curriculum that he founded. Since Sunn’s 2017 arrival, Harvard has accepted Gullah as a required language in its doctoral programs.
